Bachelor’s Beware…..

Today is Sadie Hawkins Day!   Run like the wind!   Don’t let your pace falter!

As many of us from what is all too quickly becoming the senior generation know, Sadie Hawkins Day is a day of reversal.  It comes from a culture not at all like our own today.  A culture where women were not equal with men.  They were the weaker sex, the delicate creatures and at times even “the little woman”.

Sadie Hawkins was first introduced Li’l Abner.

Al Capp brought out the concept that on February 29th, a girl could marry a man if she could catch him.  It has been a part of our culture ever since.

Of course, this comes from the dark ages when men would put women on a pedestal, open doors for them, help them in and out of autos and up and down stairs.  The days when men would not sit until all the ladies in the room were properly seated.  By properly I mean holding the chair and gently sliding it in place.  In those dark times before woman’s liberation, men would work hard sometimes even work a second job (called moonlighting then) so that his wife could be home with the children.  The children were better off because they were cared for by the ones who loved them most.

Sadie Hawkins doesn’t mean much today. Women today have achieved equality (well, almost).  They are no longer placed in high regard, on a pedestal to be cherished and honored.  They are employers to be obeyed at work.  Men no longer stand when a lady enters a room, after all, she puts her pants on the same way they do.  Hold a door for a lady? Not unless she is old, infirm (or perhaps) drop dead gorgeous.  Give up a seat on a bus?  You’ve got to be kidding!

Woman have come a long way since 1937 when Sadie was introduced. She would have a hard time today.  She would not understand why woman had tried so hard to become “equal”.

President’s Day.. Not just a day for discounts on a new car.

Happy President’s day to all of you. A day set aside to honor two of our greatest leaders … and get a good deal on a mattress.George Washington became the greatest General of his time because of a tenacity and willingness to see things through. He was also smart enough to know that two terms in service to the country is plenty enough. We should honor him for it… and because K-mart has Martha Stewart sheet sets on sale.

President Lincoln presided over this country during the darkest times in it’s history. He kept a nation together when it was being ripped apart. He had to make many difficult decisions and send thousands to their deaths to feed the tree of liberty. He also should be honored this day… and because the local Ford dealer is having a special.

So…. While you are off to look at that mattress, flat screen TV, or even a new car, take a moment to remember the reason for the holiday. Two great leaders who were instrumental in the founding and maintaining of this country.

NOW…. On a more cynical note:What we have today is a bankers holiday. Government buildings and agencies are closed (not a bad thing) BUT real working folks are at the job today.

Most of the millions of hard working men and women that make this country go are at work today. The government people are home which is a good thing because, in my opinion, they mostly make this country stop.

Congress is off for ten days so they can’t pass more legislation to complicate our lives. The bureaucrats are off today so they can’t bother us in our places of business. Schools are closed today so they will not be brainwashing our children convincing them that the government is god.

All in all… this makes it a pretty good day for average Americans.

Happy President’s Day

OK…… Now what?

Now that I have had time to digest the events of last week I have come to a couple of conclusions.

The first is obvious…. Regardless of the November election results, there will be (at the very least) a liberal in the White house this next January.  The only question is HOW liberal.  So the head of this nation (regardless of political affiliation) will continue to pull this country toward social fascism.  More of our freedoms and more of our money will be taken away at the point of a gun. The second conclusion is a little less obvious.  We, as conservatives who love this country, can not roll over and play dead.  It is more important, now more than ever, to have a strong base and to elect people who think like we do.  Now is the hour to get off our behinds and get involved in the campaign of a conservative candidate.  We NEED all the conservatives we can get AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT to hold back the tide of socialism that is sure to come.Get to know your candidates for the city, county, state and federal offices.  If they are conservative and believe in liberty and freedom, get behind them. Write a check if you can, even more, be INVOLVED. Work in a campaign office. Help with a phone bank. Address envelopes. Host a meet the candidates coffee. Do SOMETHING!  If you don’t…. you will soon be living in the People’s Republic of Amerika (or perhaps the Mex-Areri-Can-adian Union).

Conservatives who believe in less government intrusion, more liberty and freedom have a voice in this country.  We saw that last summer when we shut the door on McCain’s amnesty bill.  We have to do it again in November to shut the door on the liberal soon to occupy the White House.

I don’t care who you vote for or who you vote against this fall for President, it won‘t matter much.  However, YOU should care about who is running for the U.S. House and Senate. Only a conservative block in those houses will keep the socialist up the street in check.

Conservatives have a mission, that mission is to save this country from self destruction.  We can only do that effectively with conservative representation on the local School Board, the City Council, the County Commissioners, State Legislatures, Governors and in the US Congress.  If we fail, we could very well loose what little is left of the America we inherited from the “Greatest Generation“.

A conservative’s thoughts on Super-Duper Tuesday

Well. Here it is…. Super Tuesday and the 24 hour news stations are going to be doing all election all the time.  The talk radio guys are going to be talking about the election all day.

Frankly, I am already burned out with the race for the White House.  To start with, my guy (Newt Gingrich) didn’t run and my second choice (Fred Thompson) has dropped out.

I am now left with 4 poor choices:

First –  a guy with an identity problem – McCain in in the wrong political party.  He is too liberal to be called a Rino.  He is for Amnesty and against free enterprise.

Second – A guy who was a liberal governor of the most liberal state in the union less than a year ago.  Seems now he has suddenly become a conservative.  Hmmmm…. Believe that?  Romney is anti gun, he said he will gladly sign a new law making “assault“ weapons illegal.  He pushed through a law making health insurance MANDITORY in Massachusetts. AND…. He’s proud of it!!!

Third is a guy who I respect and can support but not with overwhelming enthusiasm.  His track record is not great and that makes me nervous.  BUT he is for the Fair Tax and understands the Second Amendment.  Mike Huckabee talks a good talk but I’m not sure if he can walk the walk.

Forth is a guy that I truly consider a great man.  He understands what the Founding Fathers were trying to do and wants to bring back the greatness that was the United States of America.  Unfortunately, he has a blind spot when it comes to Islam.  He does not see Islamo-fascism as the enemy.  He is still under the misconception that if we are nice to them, they will be nice to us.  That will get us killed.  Ron Paul is a strict Constitutionist and, before 9/11, I would have given him all my support.  Now things are a bit different.  This blind spot keeps me from supporting him.

So as you can see… I have no dog in the fight. I have to choose from a list of 3 socialists who want to continue to drive this country to the left and one who is right in everything but things that will kill us.

When the day comes for me, I will stand and support Mike Huckabee.  He is the least worse of the bunch.

As to the Democrat side…. Electing either one would simply be an Obamanation.

What would REALLY happen?

What would really happen if the Supreme Court were to reverse Roe Vs Wade?  Would the world come to an end?  Would we suddenly be overwhelmed with overpopulation?  Would young pregnant woman suddenly by using unsterilized and crude instruments in an attempt to self abort?  Would unscrupulous and unlicensed “doctors” set up filthy shops in back alleys and roving motor homes?  Would the suicide rate in young women suddenly expand exponentially?

Here’s the best question – Would overturning Roe Vs Wade make abortion illegal throughout the United States?  The answer to all but especially the last question is a resounding…

 NO!

What did the Supreme Court do with Roe Vs Wade.  They said that abortion was a FEDERAL matter and could not be determined by the states.  That’s all they said.  If today’s court were to reverse this proclamation then the decision would revert back to the state legislatures where, in my opinion, it belongs.

I can think of some states where this court decision would go unnoticed, California perhaps, Vermont for sure, as well as Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey.  I can think of other states where this would be a big change.  In South Dakota, for instance, there is already a law in place making abortion illegal the moment Roe Vs Wade is overturned.  Other states may have similar statutes.  If they don’t, I’m sure ones would soon follow.  Most of the Midwestern states would more than likely vote for the sanctity of life, though some (Minnesota for one) may stay an abortion state.  I think, once all the decisions are in, that there would be between 30 and 40 states choosing life while the rest would choose to do nothing. Will this be the end of civilization as we know it?  Would our American culture be over?  Again the resounding answer is…

 NO!

All it would do is bring the argument and the CHOICE back closer to WE THE PEOPLE where it belongs.

CHOICE – Isn’t that what liberty is all about anyway?  Let’s let the States choose and get the Fed out of our bedrooms and surgical bays.
